Isle of Anglesey!

Hello everyone!!

It has been an exciting and new last couple of days!

Friday I went to classes and then met with a couple of people about going on a trip to see Stonehenge on the 21st! I am very excited about that and now all I need to do is buy my train tickets!

Saturday we had another field trip. We visited The Ynys Mon (Isle of Anglesey)! There was a variety of places on the island that we went to. The first place was Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch!! That is in fact the name of the village but some people just call it Llanfair PG for short. It is the longest place name in the entire United Kingdom. The name of village was originally Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll but it was changed in the 19th century to make the village a tourist spot!
Me with the sign for the village outside the train station!
The train station stop! That name is ridiculously long! haha

Our next stop was Penmon and the Pemon Priory! When we first arrived we were able to go by the sea and get a view of Puffin Island and a couple of million dollar houses. The price of the houses shocked me because they did not look that different from some of the houses here in Bangor but I guess it is all about location. The view was amazing but it was very windy and cold outside.View of the light house and some people from my group taking pictures!Puffin island!Million dollar houses!!

After this we went to the Priory! At the Priory there was another well that is said to be holy and cure eye ailments. There is a dovecoat, which is where the members of the priory used to keep and sell doves for food. That was interesting to me because I have never thought of eating a dove before unless I was really hungry. We also went into the church and were able to see two old Celtic crosses that date back to the time when there was a monastery. You could still the Celtic patterns on them and it was pretty amazing! Inside of the church there was also a baptismal font that was made of stone and had Celtic knots on it. After viewing the church we stepped outside and were able to go into the ruins that was the only monastery where the monks used to live. That was pretty cool and it was very nice outside. I enjoyed looking around here.Inside the dovecoat! All of the little holes you can see are where the doves lived!Tecwyn telling us about the well before we went to look at it!The well and Jim standing inside looking at it!The view from the church! The church and a couple people walking inside of it!1,000 year old Celtic cross!Baptismal font! The old monastery!

After this we stopped on the side of the road to get some good pictures by the ocean with the backdrop of the mountains!Beautiful view of the ocean!Allison and I on the beach with the mountains behind us!

After this we went to Beaumaris Castle. It was built in the 13th century and it has a moat! the interesting thing about this castle is that there is a chapel inside and you can clearly tell the difference between the chapel room and the other rooms through out the castle! This also has extra special meaning to me because when I was in 10th grade we came here on our Europe Trip to England, Ireland, and Wales! Totally cool! The outside of the castle and the castle moat!A couple swans in the moat!Me with the sun in my eyes and a view of the inside of the castle! I'm standing on the top!Me standing on top of the castle with a view of the mountains behind me!Keeley, Jim, Amanda, me and Russell in a stairwell climbing down from the top!The inside of the chapel inside the castle!Me inside one of the windows that looks down into the chapel!Adena, Jim, Dani, Rebecca, Allison, and Russel! We were wondering how many people can fit into an old window inside the castle! The answer was 6!

After Beaumaris Castle we stopped and had lunch in the town of Beaumaris! I got a tomato and cheese toastie and it was very good!Tyler, Jenny, Allison, Sandra, Keeley, and Dani eating lunch!Adena, Jim, Kirsten, Russell, me, and Rebeccca eating lunch! This was kind of a disfunctional picture but it totally works!

After lunch we headed toward the Marquess of Anglesy's Column and on our way we stopped to take a picture of the Menai Bridge. It was the first bridge built from main land to Anglesey! construction to build the bridge started in 1819 and was completed in 1824! It was been updated since then but it is pretty much the same bridge and is now one of two bridges from main land UK to Anglesey and is used frequently!Menai bridge!

The Marquess of Anglesey's Column was built two years after the battle of Waterloo in 1815. About 50 years after the column was built a statue was erected at the top of the column to commemorate, Henry William Paget, Earl of Cambridge, first Marquess of Anglesey! The climb to the top was a little scary it is a winding staircase and it has 115 steps! After we got up there the view was beautiful! When we came down there was another group who went up and we had sometime to take pictures and goof off at the foot of the column!Me at the top of the column!View of the Menai Bridge from the top of the column! We decided to spell out LOVE! Dani, Keeley, Jenny, me, and Adena is the heart below us!Then we jumped off! Then we got Tecwyn to jump off with us!

After the column we headed out for a beach walk to Llanddwyn Island and on the island is the ruins of St. Dwynwen church! There is also a lighthouse at the end of the island that we walked to. The island was beautiful and there were wild ponies that roamed there. There were also two huge crosses at different places and they were cool to see as we walked by on the path! It took about two hours to walk out to the lighthouse and back! It made for a cool adventure!Okay at the left side of the land on this picture there is a little pointy thing sticking out! Well that is the light house we walked to! Amazing huh?The lighthouse and the cross on a hill! Oh and some wild ponies!WILD PONIES!!!A view of the old lighthouse and the Snowdonia mountains in the background!A view off the coast of this little island onto the coast of Anglesey!

That was the last thing we did on our field trip and I was very glad because I was so tired by the time I got back to my room I was ready for food and bed! It was a really fun day! I'm glad that we have these field trips to go on becasue they allow all of us to understand Wales and the culture and people better!

Today I slept very late and once I woke up I found somehting to eat! Sadly I could not eat the first to thing I wanted to eat becasue there was mold on the english muffins and on my bread! I guess I need to go to the grocery store tomorrow! After I ate I went to the volleyball club and played volleyball for 3 hours! It was a lot of fun and I think I will go back! Now I am about to do a little homework! Wish me luck!

Have a good day!!!
